Is an American Staffordshire Terrier a pitbull?

What two dogs make a pitbull?

A Pitbull is not a specific breed of dog, it’s actually an informal term used to describe different types of dogs originated involving a combination of bulldogs and terriers. The American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are the three dogs commonly used in making a pitbull.

These three breeds share many common characteristics, such as a strong, muscular body, a square-shaped head, and a short, smooth coat. In addition, the three breeds are all descendants of the Bull and Terrier breed, which is a breed developed in the 1800s for competitive pit fighting.

Each of the three breeds were developed with different purposes; for instance, the American Pitbull Terrier was used primarily for dog fighting, while the American Staffordshire Terrier was developed as a larger, family-friendly breed.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was bred for smaller size and for the purpose of rat catching. All three breeds have a high level of intelligence and obedience and can be trained to perform a variety of tasks.

They also share a high level of loyalty and attachment to their owners, making them great pets.
