OADM (Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) is an optical multiplexer that can add or drop different wavelengths of light while maintaining the existing signal. This is useful in applications where data needs to be delivered to or from a remote location without disrupting an existing communications system.

FWDM (Fiber Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) is a novel form of WDM that uses a single fiber to transmit multiple signals. The multiplexing is done using a micro-electromechanical device called the wavelength router, which acts as a switch to control the flow of the signals.

This type of WDM is useful in situations where separate fibers are not available or when multiple signals need to be sent over a single fiber simultaneously.
