How do you become a DAR member?

Once the lineage has been established and documented, it must be approved by DAR’s Official Records Office. The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) is the searchable online collection of all the approved lineage records that have been held by DAR.

The next step is to join a local DAR chapter. You must attend at least two regular chapter meetings and participate in chapter-sponsored activities. This experience helps you become familiar with the purposes, programs, and activities of the society.

You must also pass an examination to confirm your knowledge of the DAR.

The final step is to complete the application for membership which is available from any DAR chapter. In addition, you must submit your documentation, lineage report and national application fee. The National Board of Management will review your entire packet and, if everything is in order, approve your membership.

Once accepted, you will be officially acknowledged as a DAR member.
