How much food does a giraffe eat per day?

What animal eats 16 hours a day?

The brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) is a species of mammal that eats up to 16 hours a day! That’s right – up to 16 hours of feasting! Bats are remarkable animals and the brown bat species is no exception.

Not only do they flutter around in darkness using echolocation to search for their prey but they also eat an incredible amount of food for their size. To feed for 16 hours a day requires the brown bat to consume up to half of its body weight in food each day.

This usually consists of flying insects such as moths, beetles, and flies. To accommodate their eating habits, these bats have evolved a food storage pouch in their abdomen area to carry food from one feeding spot to another.

This helps balance their energy between periods of food frenzies and rest. Brown bats are an important species for controlling insect populations. They are generally solitary animals that roost in caves, buildings, or trees.
